11% DTPA Iron Chelate

Iron is an essential element required for plant growth. The iron demand of plants in an aquaponics system can at times outstrip the amount available from the waste provided by the fish so may need to be supplemented.

DTPA Iron Chelate is readily available for plant uptake in system water of a pH of 6-7.5, which is in the pH range of a balanced aquaponics system (pH 6.5-7) & is available in 250g & 500g packets & comes with application scoop.
Email Rob for prices on larger orders.

An iron deficiency is easy to identify as iron is an immobile element meaning that the plant can't move it around internally like nitrogen & magnesium. An Iron deficiency will have your plants displaying interveinal chlorosis (yellowing between the veins of leaves) of young leaves at the growth points.

Suggested Application Rate

10g of 11% DTPA Iron Chelate in 1000L of system water will raise iron levels between 0.5-1ppm.
Pre mix with some system water & add under water inlet of grow bed for better distribution to plants roots.

Potassium Bicarbonate Food Grade Nutrient & pH Buffer for Aquaponics
Potassium can quite often be deficient in aquaponics systems, particularly in newer systems planted out with a lot of fruiting or nutrient demanding plants. Potassium Bicarbonate (KHCO3) is a perfect source of potassium for your plants and can help stabilise pH by adding alkalinity to the water.
PLEASE NOTE..
It is recommended that you check pH regularly when using any bicarbonates in your aquaponics system. Bicarbonates have the ability to raise alkalinity & in turn, the pH of your system. Sudden shifts can be a health hazard to your fish.

  • Add no more that 1 scoop (approx. 10g) per 200L when first using KHCO3.
  • Guard against pH shock to your fish by adding a little at a time & monitor your pH after each addition to gauge effects of dosage used.
  • Add KHCO3 under water inlets in grow beds where potassium can be used by plants & potential rapid pH adjustment can occur away from direct contact with fish.
  • Amount required to raise pH will vary between aquaponics systems & differing water parameters.
  • While this product is food grade it has been weighed & packaged using a non food grade packing process so is not fit for human consumption.
